Create a neat and simple design for your newsletter

Create simple newsletter to understand

By Thomson Chemmanoor
A newsletter need not be very long to make it attractive to its readers. In fact, if the newsletter is created in a simple manner, it is more likely to be understood by readers, and thus receives a higher clientele of readers!

It is of no use using long articles in the newsletters, as there seldom are readers who are that patient enough to read long articles! Long articles that are more than a few hundred words are considered to be basically useless. They only push other content of the newsletter out of the visible display area, and are hard to understand! Avoid using multicolumn layouts in the newsletter, as they are hard to follow for the reader. They also take a long time to understand. Keep newsletters simple with only one column; remember it is a newsletter we are talking about, and not a newspaper!

When creating a newsletter, design the layout in such a way that related articles and matter are placed on the same page. Placing unrelated matter on the same page only leads to confusion and some difficulty in the coordination of the reader. When placing graphics or photos in the newsletter, make sure that they are necessary in the newsletter, and are related to some mater or the other in the newsletter. Photos and graphics have to be placed in newsletters as they make the newsletter more interesting. However, excess use of them only make things complicated, and takes up unnecessary place!

When writing for the newsletter, write articles that are simple, and to the point. If needed, you could consider using bulleted lists if there are points to be emphasized on in the article. Bulleted points tend to gather more information from the reader. However, by writing simple articles for the newsletter, you find that fillers are necessary for the newsletter, then it may be considered that there just isn’t enough content for making a worthy newsletter! To make the newsletter easier to read to the reader, you could consider placing a summary of longer articles found in the later pages of the newsletter in the first page of the newsletter. However, make this summary as simple and meaningful as possible!

When writing newsletters, it is always better to include only two or three subjects per newsletter. If by chance, there is more to say, then the matter could be broken into additional newsletters. Remember that it is always better to send two issues to the readers than a double issue. This is because the double issue is harder to deal with it in terms of printing charges, the patience the reader needs to read it, and of course, the more matter that is required to be put in the newsletter

There is no fixed rule to create the best and most simple newsletter. Only remember that the newsletter has to have a layout that is easy enough for the reader to read, and short articles with easy words to facilitate easy understanding to the reader!
