The right time to launch or relaunch your websites

By Thomson Chemmanoor
Once the idea of creating a website enters our mind, we tend to either engage the services of a web designer to create a website or to create the website on our own. The designer chalks out numerous designs for us to choose from, and when the right design is chosen, this design is implemented in the website. The content of the website is added, and voila, the website is ready to be launched on the internet.

This is not true. Mind you, a good website is NEVER really complete. It is constantly evolving entity onto itself. This is a point all webmasters and web designers have to keep in mind that what with the growing technologies, coding standards, improved graphic abilities and programs, the website is never complete. One has to in fact launch and relaunch a website quite frequently to keep in line with technology.

Websites can be considered to be in a continual Darwin-like state of evolution where content is added, graphics are tweaked and numerous other changes may be performed on the site every now and then when necessary. The world is full of competition; in sports, cooking, literature, and science and even in the internet. There is always some form or the other of competition amongst the commercial sites of the industry. So you have to periodically check on your competitor’s websites and see if your site compares favorably to theirs. If you find there is room for some improvement in your website, do go ahead and make them and then relaunch the website. Make it a point to have a unique property in your website when launching it to bring your website to the front of the pack. This property can be anything from a custom quote request form to a never-seen-before-layout of the site.

Whatever property you choose to project through your website, make it sure you make it to the market as quickly as possible so as to reap the maximum benefits of it before a competitor gets to know about it. So if needed, you can relaunch your website adding this unique property to it. However, there may be times when you may have to hold back on the launching of this unique property as sometimes, as soon as something is found and proven to be successful, there is the competition who will copy and try to improve on this said unique property to implement it in their website.

Sometimes, there may be websites that seem to have a deadline that cannot be altered or pushed back. There is not much alterations that can be done on the site as it is not alterable. So in such situations, it is wiser to launch a smaller version of the new site you had thought about and to add it to the original website at a later date. When you do launch a website, do check to see that there are no links on pages that may lead to missing or incomplete pages. There may also be some typographical and spelling errors on the site through which customers can still find the site via search engine and use the site.

Under such circumstances, it is better to relaunch the site to avoid feeding wrong and false information to the general public using these websites. When designing a web page, it is always better to create a web page wherein the font and layout styles are kept separate from the content to facilitate easy changes to the site if necessary. One of the best ways to tell if your site is ready for launch or not is by showing the site to your friends and family prior to the launch to get their feedback on it. Don’t get satisfied by just general comments on the site from them. Tell them to give detailed pointers on what is really bad or good of the site so that you can make the necessary changes to the site before actually launching it. Of course, if you get a positive feedback on the site, then you may consider that it is the right time to go for the launch of the website. You too can judge on your site to find out if it is ready for launching it. After the completion of the site, don’t look at it for about 24 to 48 hours, and when you feel fresh again, you should again sit at the website. It is highly possible for you to find some worthy changes in the website when you look at it with a fresh pair of eyes.
So by actually noting if your website abides with all these conditions, you will get to know if your site is ready or not for launching or relaunching. Just tick off on these conditions and see if you are ready for launching!
